Ruben Amorim Celebrates Debut Victory at Old Trafford, but Admits Anxiety Over Manchester United's New Direction

Ruben Amorim marked his Old Trafford debut with a dramatic 3-2 Europa League win over Bodo/Glimt, but the new Manchester United boss admitted feeling nervous as he attempts to implement his vision amid a challenging schedule.

The Portuguese manager, who replaced Erik ten Hag just a third of the way into the season, has been working quickly to instill a wing-back system unfamiliar to United’s squad. Despite the exhilarating win, which featured a brace from Rasmus Hojlund, Amorim revealed the pressures of his new role are beginning to show.

"I get anxious because I don’t know what will happen," Amorim confessed to TNT Sports. "We don’t control anything at the moment. I don’t know the players and we have not worked a lot together."

With limited training sessions—just two before his first match at Ipswich and two more leading into the Europa League clash—Amorim is pushing his squad hard, even making those not in the starting lineup train intensively. The intensity of fixture congestion has only added to his sense of uncertainty.

Despite the anxiety, Amorim remains determined to implement his tactical philosophy, even if it means navigating the uncertainty of how the players will adapt on the fly. The new manager's mix of optimism and nerves speaks to the challenge of transforming a high-profile club mid-season, with the pressure to deliver results mounting quickly.
